Kosi Kalan

Is a town and a municipality in Mathura district in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Kosi Kalan is situated in BrijBhoomi, i.e., the area where Lord Krishna had spent his childhood days .Town was named Kosi for being treasury of NandBaba (Father of lord Krishna) (as Kosh means Treasure). This town is a hub of cultural and commercial activities. There is another saying about name, People believe it got its name from Kushasthali which mean place of Kush, Kush is son of Lord Ram. The town is situated on the Delhi-Agra highway(NH-2)at 100 km milestone. The town is equally famous for its varied culture (since it is situated at tri-junction of Uttar pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana) as for its industrial development.Its location on NH2 with equal distance from Delhi, Agra, Noida and Gurgaon (100 km), It is very well connected from Rajsthan, Haryana, Delhi and MP through direct bus connectivity Also large number of plying locals (EMUs) has made Kosi Kalan an easily approachable and convenient place .Kokilavan, where lot of devotees come to pray Lord Shani (Saturn), is 8 km away from Kosi Kalan. Here the lord Shani known as son of Lord Sun and related to Saturn planet is worshipped. It is the place of attraction as many devotees from the various parts of India visit the Kokilavan temple and it also attracts foreign tourists. lots of "bhandaraa" are organised every Saturday by the devotees attend this devotion in the faith of Shanidev Ji Maharaj.

Town has three government run colleges, Intermediate colleges namely M.B. Inter College, Hindu Inter College and M.B. Girls Inter college. Town also has famous degree college, Shri Brij Bihari Degree College that is affiliated from Agra University. There are several private schools amongst which prominent are Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Vidya Devi Jindal School, St. Theresa school,Aadarsh Public School.Kosikalan has seen alumni of its schools to IIT, IIM, CA, lwayer and also other most reputed institutes of India.Nearby village Paigaon has a central government's HRD ministry funded Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.

The first industry named "Venus Industries", an Alarm and Wall clock manufacturing Unit was established in the 1960s.Many industries are already successfully running in the surroundings Varun beverages ltd. Kokilavan Dham:- It is the place where the famous Shani Dev Temple is situated in Kosi Kalan near Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, India. As the temple exists in the densed jungle (van), this place is named kokilavan. This is very ancient temple of Shani Dev and his guru Barkhandi baba. The devotees from all over the India comes here to do pooja here.

Nandgaon :- Village and pilgrim where Lord Krishna spent lot of time of his childhood which is just 10 km from Kosi Kalan.RADHA RANI just 20 km from kosi.

Govardhan:- Famous for Holy Goverdhan . The town is also famous for its 21 kilometers long Parikrama of the a very old hill called Govardhan. The parikrama procession is held in very high religious belief. Its said that Lord Krishna held Govardhan Hill on his little finger to save the town from wrath of the god of rains Indra.

Vrindavan :- World known pilgrim of lord Shri Krishna just 35 km from kosi kalan.

Mathura :- Again world known place, pilgrim and birthplace of lord Krishna just 40 km from kosi kalan.

Agra :- Known for Taj Mahal, regarded as one of the eight wonders of the world,and some Western historians have noted that its architectural beauty has never been surpassed.
